Opened New year's Day, 1911 as the McKenzie Hotel, and renamed Patterson Hotel in 1922, this facility was known as the most luxurious hotel between Minneapolis and Seattle. It had more private baths than any building in North Dakota when constructed. The Patterson was known for its continued construction that lasted over twenty years, in an effort to avoid paying property taxes. The hotel was located directly across from the former site of the Sheridan House, the first hotel Edward Patterson owned. Today, the lobby houses Peacock Alley Bar & Grill and the rooms house senior housing. Notice the "Fireproof" sign in the second picture, this was a common advertisement in Bismarck following of the 1898 Fire.
