Sertoma Park, also known as Riverside Park, is a municipal park located in southwest Bismarck along the shores of the Missouri River. Inside the park sits the Dakota Zoo and Superslide Amusement Park. Walking trails and picnic shelters are spread throughout the park. The park was established in 1928. It is one of the largest parks located in Bismarck-Mandan.
The Super Slide Amusement Park gets its name from the large “super slide” at the park’s center. The park also features a batting cage, miniature golf, bumper cars, and various other rides and activities.
The Dakota Zoo is situated adjacent to Sertoma Park along the shores of the Missouri River. The zoo opened in 1961 and has since expanded to 125 species of birds and mammals, with over 100,000 visitors each year. The Dakota Zoo once had the distinction of having the largest Kodiak bear in captivity. The bear, Clyde, passed away in 1987, however still has a strong presence within the zoo, including a life-size carving of Clyde carved by local resident Dave Ely.
